Buffalo Bills sign Frank Gore Jr. as UDFA: Analysis

The Buffalo Bills have added a familiar name to their roster with the signing of Frank Gore Jr., son of legendary NFL running back Frank Gore Sr. Despite going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Gore Jr. brings a lot to the table based on his successful tenure at Southern Miss.

One of Gore Jr.’s biggest strengths is his durability, having led Southern Miss in rushing yards in each of his four seasons without missing a game. He has great vision, balance, and the ability to gain extra yards through contact. Additionally, Gore Jr. has experience playing on special teams.

However, scouts have raised concerns about his lack of breakaway speed, small catch radius, and pass blocking abilities. Standing at 5-foot-8 and 201 pounds, he has good lower-body strength but may struggle against larger opponents.

Despite these weaknesses, Gore Jr. had a standout performance in the 2022 Lending Tree Bowl, setting an NCAA record for most rushing yards in a bowl game by a single player. In his college career, he amassed 4,022 rushing yards, 26 rushing touchdowns, and 692 receiving yards.

Looking ahead to his NFL career, Gore Jr. has the potential to make an impact, especially as a special teams player. To fully realize his talent, he will need to improve his pass-catching and pass-blocking skills. While he may not fit the mold of a typical third-down back, Gore Jr. has the opportunity to showcase his versatility and carve out a role on the Bills’ roster.

In conclusion, Frank Gore Jr. brings a mix of promise and areas for improvement to the Buffalo Bills. With hard work and dedication, he has the potential to follow in his father’s footsteps and make a name for himself in the NFL.
