Fanatics 101 Celebrates 20th Business Anniversary

Keddrain “KD” Bowen has been a trailblazer in the sportswear retail industry for the past two decades. From humble beginnings with only $300 and a degree in Sports Management from Tusculum University, Bowen opened his first business, KD Urban Wear, from the trunk of his car at the Mall of Johnson City. Fast forward to today, and he now successfully operates two sportswear retail stores under the name Fanatics 101, with locations in Asheville, North Carolina, and Johnson City, Tennessee.

To commemorate this major milestone, Bowen is inviting customers and the public to join the celebration at Fanatics 101 in the Mall at Johnson City on August 1. The event promises to offer special deals, entertainment, and exciting giveaways throughout the day.

With a combined total of up to 12 employees, Bowen’s retail locations have made a significant economic impact, generating over $10 million over the past 20 years. His hard work has not gone unnoticed, as he has been the recipient of several accolades and awards. In 2011, he was recognized with a 40 Under Forty award by the Business Journal of Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia. Furthermore, his store was voted “Best Sports Store in Tennessee” by Sports Licensing + Tailgate Trade Show in 2012 and he received the Johnson City Chamber’s “Faith in the Future Award” in 2014 and 2016. Additionally, Fanatics 101 has been a three-time winner of the KOSBE Awards, a prestigious small business-focused awards program in the Tri-Cities area.

When asked about his remarkable success, Bowen credits his unwavering faith and his priority of placing God first in both his personal and professional life. He emphasizes the importance of customer satisfaction and employee investment, stating, “Our success is built on satisfied customers and satisfied employees.”

In addition to his business ventures, Keddrain Bowen is a John Maxwell certified speaker, trainer, and coach, offering his expertise to individuals, professionals, business owners, and leaders. He is also an author and publisher with two books under his belt and a third book in the works.
