As we kick off Pride Month in June, it’s important to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reflect on the history that brought us to where we are today. The significance of Pride Month dates back to the Stonewall Riots in June of 1969, when members of the LGBTQ+ community stood up against police harassment and discrimination. This event marked a turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, and we continue to honor this legacy through various events and celebrations.
According to a recent Gallup poll, the number of U.S. adults identifying as LGBTQ+ has more than doubled in the last 12 years, with over 20% of Gen Z adults identifying as LGBTQ+. This increase in visibility and acceptance is a testament to the progress we have made, but it also underscores the importance of continuing to advocate for equality and representation.

This summer, there are several Pride events happening throughout the area that our team members are encouraged to participate in. From Pride marches and festivals to picnics and pub crawls, there are plenty of opportunities to show your support and celebrate diversity. Some upcoming events include the Philadelphia Pride March & Festival on June 2, the Lancaster Pride Festival on June 15, and the Pride Festival of Central PA in Harrisburg on July 27.
As we come together to celebrate Pride Month, let’s remember the importance of inclusivity, acceptance, and standing up for what is right.
