Janet P. McCanless Recognized as P.O.W.E.R. Woman of the Month for November 2023
We are excited to announce that Janet P. McCanless of China Grove, North Carolina, has been selected as the Woman of the Month for November 2023 by P.O.W.E.R. (Professional Organization of Women of Excellence Recognized). This prestigious recognition is a result of Janet’s outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of publishing.
Janet P. McCanless is a talented author known for her work in fiction, humor, non-fiction, children’s books, and cookbooks. With an impressive portfolio of 25 books, including The Beryl’s Cove Mystery series, “Murder at the Stateline Hotel,” and “Murder on the Rocks,” Janet has established herself as a prolific and diverse writer.
Her passion for writing traces back to her childhood, where she was introduced to the world of literature by her father, who was a publisher. “I had access to wonderful books as a child. I always wanted to write. I started out writing position papers about family violence prevention, which segued into newspaper columns and books,” said McCanless.
In addition to her literary accomplishments, Janet has also been actively involved in community service. She was honored with the Woman of the Year Award from Rowan County in 1978 and has served as the past president and executive director of the Rowan County Council on the Status of Women. Her dedication to social causes led her to found the Rape, Child Abuse and Family Crisis Council of Rowan County, where she played a pivotal role in the establishment of a safe house for women and children in abusive domestic situations.
Janet’s academic journey includes earning a B.S. in Medical Technology from Catawba College and the Rowan Hospital School of Medical Technology.
When she’s not writing, Janet enjoys her hobbies of cooking and reading, demonstrating her diverse range of talents and passions.
