NJAPM to Host 30th Annual Civil and Divorce Mediation Fall Seminar

The New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators (NJAPM) will be holding its 30th Annual Civil and Divorce Mediation Fall Seminar on Friday, November 3, 2023. The event will take place from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM as a hybrid event, offering both in-person attendance at the Pines Manor in Edison as well as a virtual option. Both NJAPM members and the public are welcome to attend.

This year’s seminar is especially significant as NJAPM is celebrating 30 years of providing mediation programming and education to New Jersey residents, the judiciary, and conflict resolution professionals.

Suzanne English, President of NJAPM, shared the organization’s mission of providing education and training to new and experienced mediators, as well as offering resources about mediation to the public and educational institutions throughout the state. The goal is to help people resolve conflicts and disputes through mediation as the preferred method of conflict resolution and to help relieve the backlog in New Jersey Courts.

The seminar will feature a range of informative presentations and discussions, including Lawrence Eichen’s unveiling of how ChatGPT is revolutionizing mediation in the Artificial Intelligence era. The morning presentations will also include insights from Wendy Behary, LCSW, and author of “Disarming the Narcissist in Mediation,” focusing on diffusing challenging personalities in a mediation setting.

In the afternoon, Judge Lawrence Jones will lead a panel discussion about diversity and inclusion in collaboration with Kean University. The day will also include breakout sessions specific to both civil and divorce mediation, covering topics such as employment law, honing a mediator’s skillset, utilizing outside experts in divorce mediation, and managing taxation issues in family law mediation.

Early registration for the seminar is now open, with discounted rates available for NJAPM members and full-time students. The seminar will qualify for 5.0 CPE/CLE credits, including 1.0 diversity and inclusion ethics credit. Accredited Professional Mediators will also receive NJAPM CE hours.
