NBCU launches new unscripted pitch initiative

NBCUniversal Launch has introduced its inaugural Unscripted Pitch Accelerator program, providing independent creators and producers with the opportunity to pitch their unscripted series concepts directly to NBCUniversal television executives. This program aims to find the next hit unscripted franchises for various entertainment television platforms such as Peacock, NBC, Bravo, and more.

Creators are invited to submit pitches across a range of genres and formats, including competition formats, dating shows, lifestyle formats, and true-crime series. The top five pitches will receive a $20,000 development deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment, offering creators the resources needed to refine their concepts for potential greenlight consideration.

Jeanne Mau, Senior Vice President of TV Programming Diversity Equity & Inclusion at NBCUniversal, expressed the goal of the Unscripted Pitch Accelerator to uncover fresh perspectives and talent within the industry. The program is open to all creators, aiming to empower storytellers and shape the future of television.

The success of The Unscripted Producers initiative was highlighted, with 28 producers placed across various NBCUniversal shows, including popular franchises like “The Real Housewives” and “American Ninja Warrior.” The initiative has provided opportunities for untapped talent and has led to significant career advancements for participants.

Executive Vice Presidents of unscripted content at NBCUniversal Entertainment, Corie Henson and Rachel Smith, emphasized the company’s commitment to seeking new, innovative series to add to their existing franchises. The Unscripted Pitch Accelerator offers a unique opportunity for creators to showcase their original ideas and potentially break into the industry.

This program is part of NBCUniversal’s broader efforts to promote inclusion in unscripted television, with initiatives such as the NBCU Launch Talent and Casting Assistant Program and the NBCU Launch Production Assistant Initiative. Submissions for the Unscripted Pitch Accelerator will be accepted from May 21 to June 30, 2024, through the NBCU LAUNCH website.

Overall, NBCUniversal Launch’s Unscripted Pitch Accelerator program is a valuable opportunity for independent creators to pitch their unscripted series concepts directly to NBCUniversal executives, with the potential to secure a development deal and launch their careers in the entertainment industry.
