Palm Springs Air Museum Named 2024 Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblyman Greg Wallis

The Palm Springs Air Museum has been named a 2024 California Nonprofit of the Year, recognizing its dedication to educating the public about the role of Air Power in preserving American liberties. The Museum, located in Palm Springs, California, houses over 75 static and flying aircraft in 91,000 sq ft of climate-controlled hangars. It honors veterans and educates future generations through programs and exhibits.

Fred Bell, PSAM Vice Chairman, expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the efforts of the Museum’s staff and 300 volunteer docents who engage with visitors daily. Nonprofit organizations like the Palm Springs Air Museum play a crucial role in enhancing the lives of Californians, from providing childcare and healthcare services to promoting arts and sports activities.

The nonprofit sector in California is a significant economic driver, employing over 1.2 million people and generating $273 billion in revenue annually. Nonprofits also contribute to the state’s economy by attracting $40 billion in revenue from outside California. Volunteers in the nonprofit sector provide the equivalent of 330,000 full-time jobs each year, showcasing the impact of their unpaid labor.

California legislators have the opportunity to recognize outstanding nonprofit organizations in their districts through the Californian Nonprofit of the Year initiative. The program, now in its ninth year, culminates in a celebratory luncheon at the Capitol on June 5California Nonprofits Day. This initiative, sponsored by CalNonprofits in collaboration with the state Senate and Assembly Select Committees on the Nonprofit Sector, aims to highlight the vital contributions of nonprofits to California’s communities.
