President of World Water Council Calls for Everyone to be “Water Warriors” at 10th World Water Forum

The 10th World Water Forum officially kicked off in Bali, Indonesia, with Indonesian President Joko Widodo leading the opening ceremony at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. The event highlighted the importance of water conservation and the need for collective action to address global water challenges.

President Jokowi emphasized the significance of the Balinese Subak irrigation system, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and called for countries to follow Indonesia’s lead in protecting and conserving water resources. The President of the World Water Council, Loïc Fauchon, echoed these sentiments and expressed hope that Indonesia’s actions could inspire other nations to take similar measures.

During the High-Level Meeting, President Jokowi urged all countries to use the forum as an opportunity to reinvigorate efforts towards addressing water challenges through knowledge sharing, innovative solutions, and integrated water resources management. The Political Sessions also commenced, with the Indonesian House of Representatives showing support for achieving water security through diplomacy.

In addition to the official sessions, the Bali Youth Plan organized a series of side events, including the World Youth Parliament for Water Sessions and the Youth Awarding ceremony. The Forum’s Fair and Expo featured participants from 17 countries, while the Bali Street Carnival added a festive atmosphere with colorful parades.

A highlight of the day was the ‘Leaders Visit’ to Ngurah Rai Forest Park, where President Jokowi emphasized the collective responsibility to conserve and protect the mangrove ecosystem. The event saw the participation of 10 Heads of State, Deputy Prime Ministers, and Ministers from various countries, showcasing a strong global commitment to water conservation.

With 13 thousand participants from 132 countries and organizations in attendance, the 10th World Water Forum promises to be a platform for collaboration and action on water-related issues.
