Silver Spring, MD, December 21, 2023 — Journalist and author Alyscia Cunningham has achieved another honor: being a TEDx speaker. On Oct. 28, she joined 11 other speakers at Suffolk County Community College’s Van Nostrand Theater in Long Island for TEDx DeerPark Women.
Cunningham expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to speak at TEDx, stating that it was a significant milestone in her career. She emphasized her commitment to personal growth and pushing beyond her comfort zone.
Her TEDx Talk, “How You Can Make Your Art Accessible,” has been published on the TEDx Talks YouTube channel. In the 11-minute presentation, Cunningham discusses her journey as the first independent artist to create a multi-sensory art exhibition accessible for all in 2021.
Cunningham revealed that the TEDx curator selected her topic, recognizing its uniqueness and relevance. She spent several weeks practicing and refining her presentation to ensure it effectively communicated her message.
During her presentation, Cunningham conveyed the importance of making art accessible to all individuals, regardless of any sensory limitations. She hopes her message will inspire other artists to consider accessibility in their work and encourage museums and art organizations to create truly accessible exhibits.
Cunningham is open to collaborating with museums and organizations to help them improve accessibility in their spaces. She is keen on sharing her experience and supporting others in implementing accessible practices in the art world.
