Seize the Grey Upsets Mystik Dan in Preakness

In an exciting race at the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, Seize the Grey emerged as the unexpected victor, denying Mystik Dan a shot at the Triple Crown. Owned by a unique group of 2,750 micro-investors, Seize the Grey’s win marked the seventh Preakness victory for trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Despite Mystik Dan’s efforts to take the lead, Seize the Grey held on for a comfortable 2¼-length victory.

The victory by Seize the Grey also marked the end of Mystik Dan’s hopes for the Triple Crown, as the Kentucky Derby champion finished in second place. The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Justify in 2018. Despite the loss, Mystik Dan’s trainer Kenny McPeek had only positive words for Lukas, acknowledging his idolization of the legendary trainer.

With an impressive win at the Preakness, Seize the Grey paid out $21.60 for a $2 win bet. The victory was especially sweet for Lukas, who was mobbed by competitors and fellow trainers in the winner’s circle. Lukas joked about retirement as he celebrated his seventh Preakness victory.

Guiding Seize the Grey to victory was 25-year-old jockey Jaime Torres, who executed a flawless race strategy to secure the win. The stage is now set for the final race of the Triple Crown season at the Belmont Stakes, scheduled for June 8 just outside of New York City. With the excitement and unpredictability of the previous races in the Triple Crown, all eyes will be on Seize the Grey and Lukas as they aim for further success.

The Preakness Stakes delivered an exciting and unexpected outcome, with Seize the Grey emerging as the dark horse victor. The unique ownership structure of the horse added an extra element of excitement to the race, as Lukas celebrated his seventh Preakness victory. With the Belmont Stakes on the horizon, fans and bettors alike will be eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this thrilling Triple Crown season.
