Thinking Nation Adds Four New Board Members

Thinking Nation, a national 501c3 specializing in cultivating thoughtful citizens through the promotion of historical thinking in social studies, recently announced the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors. Dr. Mark Clark, Paolo DeMaria, Don Fraser, Jr., and Catherine O’Donnell, Ph.D. joined the organization, bringing the total membership to eight educational leaders.

According to Dinah Ruch, President of the Board, “The Thinking Nation team is delighted to welcome our four new education changemakers to the Board of Directors. Each new member brings a wealth of expertise, a commitment to excellence, and a unique perspective that will positively impact our efforts to foster thoughtful citizens and build a more democratic future.”

Dr. Mark Clark, the Founder & CEO of Richard Wright Schools in Washington, D.C., has been a transformative leader in the global educational space for more than 30 years. The philosophy of Richard Wright Schools prioritizes not only academic excellence, but also holistic development, focusing on fostering a culture where every student can thrive and be empowered to become lifelong learners, leaders, and responsible citizens. Paolo DeMaria, the President & CEO of The National Association of State Boards of Education, has been leading the organization with a focus on fostering literacy outcomes, teacher excellence and leadership, and equity in Ohio’s education system. Don Fraser, Jr., currently serving as Chief Program Officer at the Education Design Lab, brings expertise in postsecondary planning and college success, particularly among historically underrepresented populations. Lastly, Professor Catherine O’Donnell of Arizona State University is an expert in history and administration, having authored several scholarly books and articles.

Thinking Nation’s Executive Director, Zachary Cote, expressed his enthusiasm for the new board, saying, “The level of expertise and diversity of experience embodied by our new board members is going to play a profound role in our organization’s chief aim of shifting the paradigm of social studies education in order to cultivate thinking citizens.”
