Van Dijk gets 5/10 as Liverpool’s title hopes take hit vs West Ham

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League title took another hit with a 2-2 draw against West Ham United. Despite a strong response in the second half, poor defending let them down once again. Manager Jürgen Klopp earned a rating of 6 for his efforts, but there are clear areas for improvement in Liverpool’s performance.

The game saw Liverpool fall behind for the 16th time this season, highlighting ongoing issues with defending set pieces. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker received a rating of 5 for his performance, unable to prevent West Ham’s goals despite making some key saves. Defenders like Virgil van Dijk and Jarell Quansah struggled to contain West Ham’s attacks, with mistakes leading to goals against Liverpool.

On the positive side, Andy Robertson and Luis Díaz both put in solid performances, with Díaz unlucky not to score after hitting the post early on. Cody Gakpo’s deflected strike briefly put Liverpool ahead, but they couldn’t hang on to secure the win. Despite making key substitutions, including bringing on Mohamed Salah, Liverpool couldn’t break the deadlock against West Ham.

Looking ahead, Liverpool will need to address their defensive vulnerabilities if they hope to have any chance of catching up to league leaders Arsenal. With only three games left in the season, time is running out for Liverpool to turn things around and mount a serious challenge for the title.

In conclusion, Liverpool’s draw against West Ham was a missed opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table. While there were some positives in their performance, defensive lapses once again proved costly. Klopp and his team will need to regroup and focus on improving their consistency in order to salvage their title hopes.
