Winners of Long Island Sound Community Impact Fund Announced by Restore America’s Estuaries

Restore America’s Estuaries (RAE) recently announced the subawardees for the Long Island Sound Community Impact Fund (LISCIF), a program aimed at supporting organizations and funding projects that address environmental justice issues in the Long Island Sound region. With funding made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, RAE has selected 18 subawardees to receive grants of up to $100,000 each for projects aimed at improving community health and resilience.

The LISCIF program focuses on supporting overburdened and underserved communities within the Long Island Sound estuary, managed under the Long Island Sound Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). By providing capacity-building training and assistance in the grant application process, LISCIF aims to guide organizations towards success in their mission to address environmental justice issues in the region.

The grant application process was designed in two stages, with trainings offered to help applicants navigate project design, grant writing, budget creation, and proposal submission. After receiving 35 letters of intent and 24 full proposals, RAE has selected 18 organizations to receive funding in the first round, with projects set to begin in July 2024.

In addition to supporting environmental justice initiatives, the LISCIF program aims to foster collaboration between community organizations and federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Regional EPA administrators have expressed their support for the program, highlighting the importance of investing in projects that protect and preserve the Long Island Sound for future generations.

RAE is excited to work with subawardees in the Long Island Sound region to improve environmental justice issues while assisting organizations in their programmatic and grants management needs. The organization will also be hosting an Annual Learning Exchange on June 27th to bring together subawardees, Tribal Nations, organizations, municipalities, and institutions for networking, collaboration, and learning opportunities related to funded projects.
